I am proud of our accomplishments at Hacienda del Sol since 1995 and missed the horses terribly after we sold all horses 3 years ago.  About a year and a half ago, we could not stand it anymore and wanted to get back into the horses.  We were known as breeders of black and bay PRE’s, but this time I want to be known as the breeder of the best PRE’s.  Perhaps this was sparked by being named the USEF 2008 Top Andalusian Breeder.  Therefore, we decided to start our homework by contacting breeders in Spain, studying their lines, and traveling throughout Spain several times in the last 18 months.  In the past 15 years, we have met and established great friendships in Spain with many well known breeders.  We recently met with Cardenas, Lovera, Escalera, Guardiola and Boloix just to name a few.  We also met with smaller and newer breeders from Barcelona, Madrid, Navarra, Andalucia and everywhere else.  We had extensive phone and internet communication with a well known breeder that owned a SICAB Champion of Spain which looked very appealing as far as his lines, beauty and accomplishments.  We traveled to the farm of this prestigious breeder with every intention to buy this grey stallion.  Our first impression was total love, he was majestic, one of the most beautiful horses I had ever seen with spectacular movement and a show record to match.  After the initial shock by his beauty, we started to examine the horse closely, one part at a time, and then it became obvious that this beautiful horse had an important morphological defect.  We were devastated and angry that after so much communication prior to our trip, this  problem was never exposed by this important breeder.  We had looked long and hard, saw many beautiful animals, but not the superstar we were hoping for.  We even began to think that what we were seeking, simply did not exist.

Days later, we visited Fuentes de Andalucia, where Yeguada Maria Fernanda de la Escalera is located, and met with Manuel Novales de Escalera, son of Maria Fernanda who now runs the family farm.  This farm has been around for 300 years and owned by the same family.  They are simply remarkable and without a doubt the most prestigious PRE breeder in the world.  He showed us just about all his magnificent horses.  We wanted to see the sires of some of the colts he had shown us.  He took us to the stallion barn and then it happened, we set eyes on Triunfador.  We found him to be nothing short of spectacular, the ultimate stallion, the one we were seeking, he did exist.  One small problem, this was Escalera’s main stud, NOT FOR SALE.  Months went by, we kept in touch with Manuel, we continued to pursue Triunfador relentlessly and somehow we were able to come to terms with the Escaleras.

As the next breeding season approaches, please consider this legendary stallion who we think is truly “THE TOTAL PACKAGE” and a “WORLD CLASS STALLION”.  Our belief is based on the following:

1)  COLOR:

Triunfador happens to be black, DNA homozygous black with no markings, we weren’t looking for a specific color, we were looking for a stallion that would blow us away and he did.  We spent a lot of time talking with some of the best breeders in Spain and they will all tell you that a spectacular black PRE is extremely difficult to find.  The reason is actually simple.  There are few true black PRE’s in comparison to grey or bays.  Since there are few blacks to begin with, there are even fewer truly good blacks, thus most blacks are average to poor in quality.  Those seeking to breed for blacks, usually will breed their average to poor quality black mare to an average to poor quality black stallion and the result is yet another average to poor quality black foal and the story repeats itself.  That is why you seldom see a black PRE in the gold at Spanish shows, specially in the more prestigious competitions.

Triunfador, inspite of being DNA homozygous black,  is not the result of a breeder’s attempt to breed for black, in fact if you study his geneology, it is 100% bay.  The Escaleras do not breed for black.  This actually makes Triunfador very attractive to those that do seek black foals of high quality.  We believe Triunfador would be an excellent choice to breed to grey, bay, or black mares due to his morphology, movement, genetics, accomplishments and world renowned Escalera brand, irregardless of his color.

2)      GENEOLOGY:

Arguably, the MARIA FERNANDA DE LA  ESCALERA brand is the most ancient and one of the most prestigious of all PRE horses.  Triunfador is 100% Maria Fernanda de la Escalera.   

His sire:  Hebreo XIX is a multi gold medallist and SICAB finalist, out of

                Macanuo III, a historic Escalera stud, out of

                Macanua, the 1984 Champion Mare of Spain, Book of Merits – Laureate

                Hebrea XI is in Book of Merits, out of

                Ganador VII, one of the most famous Escalera studs in history

His dam: Triunfadora, Book of Merits, has produced several SICAB finalists, out of

                 Nadadora VIII the 1991 & 1994 SICAB Absolute Champion Mare of Spain,

                           in Book of Merits – Laureate, 2 times SICAB Champion of spain in

                          Movement, 7 SICAB gold medals, more than any PRE in history, out of

                 Ermitaña IV also in Book of Merits- Laureate, out of

                 Lebrijano III, legendary stud

3)      PERFORMANCE:

It is rare to see a black PRE do well on the show ring in Spain because of the reasons discussed above due to mediocre quality of most blacks who must compete against top quality greys and bays.  Winning in Spain is quite different than winning in the U.S.  With all due respect to those that brag about their U.S. show records, it is simply not the same.  Shows in Spain, specially Sevilla, Jerez and SICAB which are probably the top 3 in the world, are highly competitive and well attended.  Your horse will compete against a few hundred other horses, a typical class for a stallion can easily have 30-50 of Spain’s finest that your horse has to deal with.  Unfortunately, and I have attended many shows in the U.S., our shows are not as well attended and therefore the level of competition is lacking.

Triunfador has multiple GOLD MEDALS, including such shows as SEVILLA AND JEREZ.  He has been a 3 time  TOP 5 SICAB finalist / honorable mention.  This is a remarkable record for a stallion of any color, unheard of for a black.  He has been awarded multiple morphology, best movement, functionality, and champion of the breed  awards.

In fact, according to MELPI, Triunfador has the best show record of any black PRE that has competed in 19 or more shows.

4)      QUALIFIED

There’s only been 20 some black PRE calificado stallions in history.  TRIUNFADOR WOULD BE THE FIRST AND ONLY BLACK, 100% MARIA FERNANDA DE LA  ESCALERA, CALIFICADO STALLION IN THE UNITED STATES.

Estoy orgullosa de nuestros logros en Hacienda Del Sol desde 1.995 y extrañamos muchísimo a los caballos después de haber vendido la ganadería hace 3 años.  Hace como año y medio ya no podíamos soportarlo y queríamos volver a los caballos.  En su tiempo, éramos conocidos como ganaderos de PRE de capa negra y castaña, pero esta vez quiero ser conocida como ganadera de los mejores caballos de Pura Raza Española.  Tal vez este deseo sea el resultado del premio que recibí en el 2.008 cuando la USEF me nombró la mejor ganadera PRE del año.  Por lo tanto decidimos empez ar nuestra tarea, estudiando las líneas de los caballos y viaj ando por toda España varias veces en los últimos 18 meses.  En los últimos 15 años hemos conocido y establecido amistades en España con muchos de los ganaderos famosos. Recientemente hemos visitado a Cárdenas, Lovera, Escalera, Guardiola y Boloix entre otros.  También visitamos otras ganaderías con orígenes mas recientes en Barcelona, Madrid, Navarra, Andalucía y otras partes del país.  Tuvimos varias conversaciones con un ganadero bien conocido, dueño de un Campeón de España en SICAB, el cual vendía su caballo y nos parecía muy interesante sus líneas, bell eza y palmares.  Viajamos a su ganadería con intenciones de comprar dicho caballo tordo. Nuestra primera impresión fue de enamorarnos, era majestuoso, uno de los caballos mas bellos que había visto y con un movimiento espectacular al igual que sus palmares.  Después al examinar bien al caballo, notamos un importante defecto morfol ógico.  Estábamos enfadados que después de tanta comunicación antes de viajar, nunca se mencionó este importante defecto.  Habíamos buscado en muchas ganaderías y a pesar de ver muchos ejemplares bellos, no habíamos encontrado la estrella que buscábamos.  Incluso empezamos a pensar que lo que buscábamos no existía.

Días después visitamos, en Fuentes de Andalucía, a la Yeguada Maria Fernanda de la Escalera y vimos a Manuel Novales de Escalera, hijo de María Fernanda, que ahora está en cargo de la ganadería.  Esta ganadería, con una historia de 300 años, sigue en manos de la misma familia.  Son simplemente una familia impresionante y sin duda la ganadería PRE mas prestigiosa del mundo.  El nos enseñó todos sus magníficos caballos.  Queríamos ver los sementales y por lo tanto nos llevó a las cuadras de sementales y fue en ese momento que conocimos a Triunfador.  Nos pareció espectacular, el semental estrella que buscábamos si existía.  Había un pequeño problema, el semental principal de Escalera, no estaba en venta.  Meses pasaron y seguíamos en contacto con Manuel y seguíamos intentando la compra de Triunfador hasta que llegamos a un acuerdo.

En esta nueva temporada de cubrición, por favor consideren a este semental legendario que nosotros pensamos que es el “SEMENTAL COMPLETO” y un semental de “NIVEL MUNDIAL”.  Pensamos así por las siguientes razones:

1)   COLOR:

Triunfador da la casualidad que es negro limpio sin divisas, es negro homocigoto comprobado por ADN.  No estábamos buscando ningún color especifico, buscábamos un semental que nos dejara sin palabras, y así fue.  Tuvimos muchas conversaciones con muchos de los mejores ganaderos en España y todos de acuerdo que era extremadamente difícil encontrar un PRE negro espectacular.  Hay pocos PRE verdaderamente negros en comparación con los tordos y castaños.  Como en principio hay menos negros, hay todavía menos negros buenos, por lo tanto la mayoría de los negros son de calidad mediana o baja.  Aquellos que crían buscando la capa negra, suelen usar una yegua y un semental negro de mediana o baja calidad y su producto suele ser también de la misma calidad y así no suele mejorar la calidad de la capa negra.  Por esta razón, en España son pocas las veces que un PRE negro gane oro, especialmente en los concursos de mayor categoría.

Triunfador, a pesar de ser negro homocigoto por ADN, no es el resultado de un ganadero buscando la capa negra, es mas, si estudian su genealogía, verán que es 100% castaña.  La Familia Escalera no hacen cría buscando el capa negra.  Esto hace que Triunfador, sin tener en cuenta su capa, sea considerado un semental excelente para cubrir yeguas tordas, castaña o negras, por su morfología, movimiento, genética, palmares, y su hierro Escalera, mundialmente conocido.

2)   GENETICA

Sin duda, el hierro Maria Fernando de la Escalera es el hierro PRE mas antiguo y prestigioso.  Triunfador es 100% Maria Fernando de la Escalera.

3)   PALMARES

Es poco común ver a un PRE de capa negra con buenos palmares en España por las razones previamente expuestas, por esa calidad mediocre de la mayoría de los capa negra los cuales tienen que competir con caballos tordos y castaños de alta calidad.  El ganar concursos en España es muy diferente que en Estados Unidos.  Con todo el respeto a los que hablan de sus palmares aquí, simplemente no es lo mismo.  Concursos en España, especialmente en Sevilla, Jerez y SICAB, que son probablemente los 3 mas importantes del mundo, son muy competitivos y con participación numerosa.  Su caballo compite contra cientos de caballos, una sección de caballos puede tener 30-50 participantes de lo mejor de España.  Por desgracia, y yo he ido a muchos concursos en Estados Unidos, hay poca participación en nuestros concursos y por lo tanto falta un buen nivel de competencia.

Triunfador tiene múltiples MEDALLAS DE ORO, incluyendo concursos como SEVILLA y JEREZ.  Ha sido finalista / mención de honor 3 veces en SICAB.  Tiene palmares magnifico para un semental de cualquier capa, no digamos para un capa negra.  Ha ganado múltiples premios y campeonatos en morfología, mejores movimientos, funcionalidad y campeón de la raza.

Es mas, según MELPI, Triunfador tiene el mejor palmares de cualquier PRE de capa negra que haya concursado 19 o mas veces.

4)   CALIFICADO

Solo ha habido 20 y pico de sementales PRE negros calificados en la historia.
